JIB cranes typically have relatively drum with small diameter and require frequent lifting and lowering via pulley systems. Therefore, their main hoist ropes must possess excellent resistance to bending fatigue.
Commonly used are 8×K19, or 8×K36 series steel wire ropes. Compared to common 6-strand wire ropes, these ropes have more and finer wires, making them very flexible and easily adaptable to the repeated bending of small-diameter drums and pulleys, reducing wire breakage due to fatigue. The compacted strand structure makes the rope surface smoother and the metal cross-sectional area larger, increasing breaking strength without increasing the wire rope diameter, while significantly reducing wear on the outer wires and extending service life.
